Consumer Acceptance Testing

Affective tests can be used in three different ways:

  • As preference tests, where products tested are ordered by the panelist in order of preference of certain attributes like color, texture, consistency
  • As acceptance tests, where products are rated on a scale of acceptability as shown in the above hedonic scale
  • As ranking tests, where the panelist ranks or rates the principal attributes that determine a particular product's preference

At the Sensory Lab, a combination of the above three classifications can be used to gain the most insight into the acceptability of a product.
